Mission: Cry For Help
Location: Starbase Aurora

=/\= Battalion Commander's Office, SB Aurora =/\=

Starbase Aurora, like many Starbases in the federation, had a detachment of marines assigned to the station. Those marines had recently completed a training mission and it was time to conduct the debriefing at the battalion level. Kyle sat at his seat in this meeting, preparing to give his report on the personnel of the battalion. After the mission, several marines had departed the station and new marines had arrived. Some marines had been promoted, and a few others had received disciplinary actions for various discretions. Kyle's job was to report on these actions to the battalion.

He sighed, waiting for the commander to arrive. The commander had said the meeting would start at 13:00 hours, so the executive officer told the staff officers to arrive at 12:30. The chronometer on the wall raid 13:10 and there was still no sign of the commander.

As he waited, he thought back to other times. He remembered his commissioning ceremony on Earth, with his parents. His parents were both Starfleet officers - his father was in Starfleet security and his mother was a doctor. Being a marine was an opportunity Kyle took to be different - to go out on his own and pursue his own path.

He remembered his first command as a platoon leader in a platoon attached to the USS Vindicator. He thought of his first CO, Captain Thompson, and his missions on the Vindicator as they dealt with the Krivaldi in the Beta Quadrant. He remembered his first senior NCO, Gunnery Sergeant Mark Redding, who helped train him to be an effective marine officer.

Now he was a captain, having been promoted from 1st lieutenant about a year prior. Now it was his time to wait for a command to open.

"Attention on Deck!" The XO barked and everyone got up from their chairs and came to attention. The XO saluted and the CO, Lieutenant Colonel Drayer, returned the salute. Both men sat at their seats and the rest of the people followed.

The meeting itself passed by uneventfully. Kyle gave his report, as did the logistics, intelligence, and other officers. After the meeting, though, the colonel asked Kyle to stay behind. Once he had dismissed the other officers, he produced a PADD from his desk and handed it to the young Captain.

"Congratulations, Captain. It appears your wish has been granted. You are being transferred to the USS Sanctuary. They are in need of a company commander."

Kyle smiled: "Thank you, sir"

Drayer continued: "You're a damn fine marine. It's a shame to lose you. I wish you the best at this new job. You're dismissed."

Kyle nodded and came to attention, giving a salute. The colonel returned the salute, then extended his right hand. He shook the colonel's hand firmly, then made his way to the door leaving the room. There were preparations to be made and it was time to go to on a new adventure.
